Nature vs Nurture (1994) is a structural homology with Romanticism rather than an influence: a city-raised artist, independently reading Rousseau and Western philosophy, arrived at the same generative move as Friedrich's audience — inventing an idealized, unlived-in nature as the imagined 'other' against a known, built world. That invented nature persists across the practice but changes register: sincere invention in 1994, self-aware fabrication by Centraal Station Boats (2007), where a homesick 'billboard-mountain' openly announces its own artifice within a documentary Amsterdam scene.
